Try setting up Off-line Developer mode[copy l2.bin as l2.exe]

http://boards.rochand.com/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=889

If you can start Developer Mode then it could be related to Launcher[how it calls L2.bin] or Game Guard/Awsomonium which start when Game is launched.

I used to use a Linux box to play on a private server C4 but they disabled those processes in their client. I used Play on Linux which have downloadable configuration files for alot of Windows Games.

You can't run it under any *NIX based OS, mainly because the game guard. Also there launcher is encrypted and it relies on some windows components that can't be emulated with wine or similar.

L2 without Game Guard on private servers is known to run quite well with wine, but here you can't play without GG.
