Question regarding crafting and alts

So I’m getting pretty into the game. Im currently boxing two dwarves with a DE healer, and I’m getting close to class changes. I’m thinking about crafting a set of top NG stuff and burning some alts up to 20, maybe even just a couple more dwarves. My question is, looking at the amount of mats required to make the piece bike armor and iron hammer, is it efficient money-wise to use all those mats? I understand it’s an investment towards making leveling new characters easily, but depending on the cost of iron and coal how likely is it that I lose money crafting instead of buying from the box.

 

Sorry if this is too basic a question, just a newbie trying set goals for my self but I’m worried about wasting precious time/money.

I would be surprised if it were efficient to craft NG. It was not efficient even when people spent way more time being in NG.
