Andrey Vlassov was born in the Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, i.e. he was a true Russian: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrey_Vlasov His deputy Sergei Bunyachenko, however, was an Ukrainian, as were many of the men under his command.
